Great program, Ian, thank you!

We recently got a terrific deal on a G5 on eBay (the Q45C to be exact). While looking for the right deal among all the G5s offered, I was able to get the details I wanted from MacTracker - much more detail than any of the sellers gave, and enough to know what a great deal this particular offer was.

One seller gave so few details that I wrote with questions. In describing shipping he'd written that he'd have to weigh his G5 to figure the charges, and I was able to tell him how much it weighed according to MacTracker.

Within MacTracker I also labeled all the G5s I was watching on eBay, and of course I have all the Macs I own labeled as well.

MacTracker is a GREAT program!

Great job with this app. Everybody at my company – an apple reseller & service centre – uses this daily.

where is the classic mac OS version? first you leave it to decay at version 4.0.2, and now it is no longer available for download. WTF? please update it and post it for download. not everyone is using OS X or windows.

What's classic Mac OS?

iamdigitalman said...

he used to make a version for PowerPC macs running Mac OS 8.5-9.2.2, which was the OS before Mac OS X came around. This version was stuck at 4.0.2, however, and has not been updated in quite some time, but it was still availible for download. Now it is no longer here, instead, you can find it on other sites. I wish he would update it, at the very least, a database update, as it stopped at 2005 models.

@iamdigitalman

Well at the very least a well worded polite email to the author, like your post above, would go a lot further towards your case than your previous post. You have to remember that this is freeware and that the guy who makes it does so on his free-time as a service to others. You really do not have any grounds on which to bitch at the author.

I'm not bitching, i'm asking him nicely to bring this back and update it. And I thought I could get in contact with him anyway, since the blog link is so nicely displayed at the top of his page. But obviously, he does not read the comments, since I have asked him before. I also DID try to email him, but like so many other developers, they ignore me for one reason or another, I don't know.

and you are not responding to the other people bitching about "OMG WHAT ABOUT THE WINDOWS VERSION?!", just me...

Great work, thanks a lot! With this Software you helped so many people.

I hope you are doing well?

After the recent Hardware-Updates at the Apple MacBooks, I was wondering if you need some help for an Update of the MacTracker-Database.

I'm using Mactracker 4.0.7 (v119) for MS Windows XP and my Installation of your mactracker-Software can't update his installed Database from December 2006.

Version 4.2 does not seem to work with the Leopard (OS X 10.5) beta delivered at the '07 WWDC.

It fails with:
Runtime Error 4: Failed Assertion

Location: /Volumes/RBUS/REALBasic/REALbasic Xcode/../../Common/RuntimeMain.cpp:396
Failure Condition: Lib
