Update on Mactracker 7.1 crash

A number of users have encountered a crash when opening Mactracker 7.1.

The issue appears to be related to a specific version of my development environment. Compiling Mactracker with an earlier release has resolved the issue.

Version 7.1.1 will be released shortly to address this issue. Thank you for your patience.

Update on Mactracker 7 System Requirements

I wanted to provide some information on why Lion was set as the minimum requirement for Mactracker 7.

My intent was to support Snow Leopard. When I moved version 7 to the Cocoa framework I encountered some stability issues with 10.6. Moving from a Carbon base was necessary for Retina display support.

I chose to release version 7 with the Lion requirement while I work to resolve the stability issues with Snow Leopard.

Mac App Store asking to update Mactracker with another Apple ID

A number of users have reported being asked to login to the Mac App Store using another person's Apple ID to update Mactracker. This can occur even if Mactracker is not installed.

A receipt from this person's copy of Mactracker was used to disable the DRM from another app. Affected users will need to remove copies of this "cracked" app to prevent the Mac App Store from asking to update Mactracker.

I'm excited to announce that Mactracker is now available on the App Store for both iPhone and iPod touch!

Developed in collaboration with Dave DeLong, Mactracker for iPhone contains specifications on every Apple Mac along with Apple displays, printers, iPod, Apple TV, iPhone, Newton, Wi-Fi Cards/Base Stations, and Mac OS versions.

Model icons are not included with this release as they contain Apple trademarked content.

By popular request, I am going to be releasing a version of Mactracker for iPhone and iPod touch alongside the next release of Mactracker for Mac OS X.

It will be available as a web app to start though that may change once Apple releases their SDK in February 2008.
